Energy Audit Obligation 2019: Be on Track in Good Time!

Energy audit: Only little time expenditure for Arqum customers

Most of the companies will be up for the second energy audit in 2019/2020. On 05.12.2015, the implementation of the energy audit in accordance with the German Energy Services Act (EDL G) was for the first time legally binding and to be carried out for all non-SMEs and repeated every four years. There are some changes to be aware of during the implementation of the second energy audit.

For example, The Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) created the possibility for companies to perform the energy audit for the whole group (see BAFA-leaflet 3.2.7). This means that all sites and companies may be taken as a whole so as to apply the 90%-rule. Sites, or parts of companies that account for a maximum of 10% of the total energy consumption are therefore not eligible. This enables corporate groups to not possibly have to consider complete companies.

As regards deadline for the implementation, it is important to note that a company must produce a report that is not older than four years at any time when requested by the German Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA). Therefore, the deadline for the implementation of the second energy audit ends for each company four years after conclusion of the first energy audit. The deadline here is the respective date of completion of the previous energy audit (signature on the energy audit report).

In order to inform as efficiently as possible on the changes and implementation of the energy audits, we will be conducting two webinars on the topic:

In the last energy audit, the time for implementation of the energy audit was often very limited due to the short time period between publication of the law and the deadline for the execution of the energy audit. This resulted in many companies being put under considerable pressure. We therefore recommend that you plan the implementation of the energy audit as soon as possible.

All companies that conducted the energy audit with Arqum in the first year save a lot of time with the recurrent audit. We prepare your data from the first audit so that you only need to register the changes. It is already clear from the first recurrent audit that customers need to invest decidedly less time and effort.
