Have you ever thought about buying a freight bicycle? – With a transport weight of up to 300 kg, the use of freight bikes is particularly attractive in an enterprise context. Find out here about funding options and various models.
Traffic jams, a lack of parking spaces and noise are the main features of everyday traffic chaos in many cities. It is worth noting that half of all car journeys are shorter than six kilometres – a distance that could easily be covered in another fashion and, in particular, in a more environmentally friendly way.
But what do you do if you want to transport drinks, drive the children to the crèche or undertake other forms of transport? For such seemingly unavoidable car journeys, the freight bike is an environmentally-friendly and practical alternative. While freight bikes are already an integral part of everyday traffic situations in cities such as Copenhagen, the trend is also increasing in German cities. Whether on two or three wheels, with or without electric drive, with front or rear loaders and thanks to the wide range of models, freight bikes can be used for a wide variety of purposes – both for private and business trips.
Different mountings such as cool boxes for food, post boxes for delivering parcels but also simple loading surfaces make (almost) everything possible. In addition, with a transporting weight of up to 300 kg, the use of freight bikes is particularly attractive in an operational context.
In order to try out the practical advantages and possible applications, companies and public institutions can test various load bike models until the end of 2019 as part of the project “Ich entlaste Städte” (“I relieve cities”) (Link to freight bikes).
In addition, BAFA provides 30% (maximum 2,500 euros) of the cost of purchasing electric heavy-duty bicycles for freight traffic. Among those eligible to apply are private companies, freelancers and municipalities. Further information on the event can be found here.
